FIRE SIMI VALLEY SUMMER 2024 PROGRAM INFO

Hey Everyone!

We had a great inaugural Simi Valley season last winter and we are really looking forward to continuing our positive momentum in the Summer 2024 season. We are really proud of how this program has come together because it represents a collaboration between ourselves, as well as coaches and parents at both Simi Valley HS and Royal HS. This program caters to players that are looking to improve their skills, get more game experience, and be part of a great environment. We also hope it gives Simi Valley its own club lacrosse identity.

Below is an overview of what we have planed. Please be aware that the practice dates at Simi Valley HS are still pending, as we are waiting for confirmation from the AD. The practice dates at Royal HS are confirmed.

We are sending this e-mail out now, even though we do not yet have the Simi Valley HS practice dates confirmed because we are confident they will be confirmed, and because many of you are wondering if this is even taking place, and if yes, what the plan is.

Thanks so much for being patient with us while we put this together and we will keep you updated on the progress with our practice schedule.

PHILOSOPHY – We love winning games! But that is not what it is about. Yes, we win our fair share, and we are always looking to go on the field to play our best possible game. But sometimes a great game ends in a loss. And that is OK. Our goal is to help the players become the Best Version Of Themselves through the sport of lacrosse. Why? Because that has enduring value. If the only thing we do is to teach our players how to master lacrosse skills, then everything we teach them will be useless once they put down their sticks. So our focus is on helping our players develop CONFIDENCE, which allows them to become the Best Version Of Themselves, on and off the field. Building confidence starts with teaching lacrosse skills in a no-nonsense, but encouraging and motivating training environment that pushes players to try new things and to fail. It continues through deliberate situational coaching that helps players with things such as exploring their limits and overcoming obstacles they thought insurmountable in game situations. CONFIDENCE is huge for female athletes and it is a primary building block for life, which is why we make it a core principal of our program. We know this approach works because at the end of each season we receive e-mails from parents telling us how their player’s confidence has increased.

PROVISIONAL PRACTICE SCHEDULE – Subject to Change

Our practice schedule is designed to support our specific training objectives. We are also trying to strike a good balance between the best possible work environment for our coaches, the best possible practice experience, while trying to make it as convenient as possible for our families. We are also trying to offer Simi Valley a unified experience so practices will be split between Royal HS and Simi HS.

Specific dates are listed below for planning purposes, but please keep in mind that this schedule is subject to change based on allocations from the respective schools.

  • Tuesday, May 28 – 7pm to 9pm @Royal HS
  • Thursday, May 30 – 7pm to 9pm @Royal HS
  • Tuesday, June 4 – No Practice
  • Thursday, June 6 – No Practice
  • Tuesday, June 11 – 7pm to 9pm @Simi Valley HS
  • Thursday, June 13 – 7pm to 9pm @Royal HS
  • Tuesday, June 18 – 7pm to 9pm @Simi Valley HS
  • Thursday, June 20 – 7pm to 9pm @Royal HS
  • Tuesday, June 25 – 7pm to 9pm @Royal HS
  • Thursday, June 27 – 7pm to 9pm @Royal HS
  • Tuesday, July 2 – 7pm to 9pm @Royal HS
  • Thursday, July 4 – No Practice

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

As you can see we scheduled only two tournaments. This has to do with several things:

  • The lacrosse season gets started full throttle in June, while players are still in school. So we want to be respectful of school schedules, finals, etc. and don’t want to book tournaments June 1 & 2 nor June 8 & 9.
  • We want to keep costs as low as possible
  • We want to make sure we have FULL participation for the duration of the season. That is difficult when the season stretches from May to the end of July. Keeping the season compact lays the foundation for a much better overall experience.
  • Pacific Lacrosse Festival – June 21 & 22 (FRIDAY & SATURDAY!!), San Diego, CA – This is an intermediate level tournament taking place at several high schools. Bit of a further drive but there will also be more hotel options at reasonable prices compared to places like Temecula. We play 3 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.
  • Legends Meltdown – July 6 & 7, Norco, CA – This is another intermediate level tournament with lots of teams and it is within reasonable driving distance. Hotels, if required, would cost a lot less than other locations such as Santa Barbara or Temecula. Again, 3 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.
